Another name for Florida is the Sunshine State, named because if its almost year round weather making it great to visit pretty much anytime, and fantastic for a Winter getaway.
It is difficult to think of a more child friendly destination than the Orlando area with so much choice of things to do for children of all ages; the only issue will be fitting in all you want to do in one holiday. Spending time creating a plan of what you want to achieve during your holiday in Florida makes a lot of sense.
You may be wanting to don those Mickey Mouse ears and hit the Disney theme parks, enjoy the fabulous world of Harry Potter at Universal or enjoy the Marine life at Seaworld. Away from the theme parks Florida has a stunning coastline with far more laid back resorts in which to recharge and relax. You will find white sandy beaches, promenades fringed with palm trees and sparkling blue sea. Head south to Miami for a totally different experience. Here you will find a buzzing nightlife scene which is ultra cool, so much that it attracts the A list stars. Expect luxury ocean front hotels, world class DJ’s and a hip party vibe. There is stunning art deco architecture everywhere.
When it comes to planning a holiday to Florida there is so much to think about and plan. With a huge choice of accommodation options to consider, alongside the activities you would like to do it helps to get some expert advice. You will need to think about how you would like to get about whilst in Florida; many people will opt for a holiday with car hire included giving a great deal of flexibility in terms of where you can stay and getting to and from various theme parks and attractions. Alternatively you could choose to stay onsite in a Disney hotel and have access to the parks almost from your hotel door. Another option is to choose a hotel that has shuttle bus transfers to the parks and attractions.

- Travel around the world in a day at Epcot’s World Showcase, enjoying food and drink from around the globe.
- Be a movie star the day and head around Universal Studios spotting all those places from your favourite films. Harry Potter fans will get their opportunity to soar over Hogwarts, or you could swing with Spiderman through the streets.
- Have an up close and personal experience with the marine life at Seaworld, a fun filled and educational day. Naturally as you would expect you will also find rides and interactive attractions which make for a fun filled day.
- Head to the Florida coast and visit the Kennedy Space Centre at Cape Canaveral. Find out all about the race to space, and the future of space travel in this fun but educational museum.
- Make a splash at one the many waterparks found in the Orlando area. We loved Typhoon Lagoon, a Disney Park with its slides, lazy river, falls and chill out areas. Another great choice is Volcano Bay at Universal with its water coaster, raft adventures and serpentine slide ride.
- Enjoy some sport; check out the local sport team programmes and plan a trip to see the football or basketball. If you prefer to get involved and are a golfer you will find more than 150 gold courses in the state; it’s the reason many pro golfers choose Florida as their home.
- Shop till you drop in one of Florida’s fabulous shopping locations. Looking for high end designer finds head to The Mall at Millenia a short drive from Universal. Wanting to fill your return home suitcases with bargains then its worth going to one of the designer outlet malls such as the Lake Buena Vista Factory Store outlets. Alternatively head into Downtown Orlando or Park Avenue in Winter Park for boutique and unique shopping.
- Escape the hustle and bustle of Orlando’s theme parks and explore the wilderness on an eco-safari. See native wildlife, like alligators, white-tailed deer, bears and perhaps even the very elusive Florida panther.

Twin Centre Escape
Given the nature of Orlando and its theme parks holidays here can be very busy and full on. You could be excused for needing a holiday when getting back from this holiday! Whilst its great to enjoy all there is on offer it is worth considering splitting your holiday and taking some time to relax at the end of it. Many people who choose to holiday here will combine time in Orlando with some time spent on the Florida coast relaxing in Clearwater, St Petes, or Fort Lauderdale on the Gulf Coast. The coastline is stunning, you can expect perfect beach sunsets, gorgeous fresh seafood and buzzing towns with great places to wander and enjoy.
You could choose a Florida fly drive experience and let the road take you wherever you choose. We chose to do this the first time we visited Florida and flew into Miami taking in a couple of days there and then driving round state and ending up in Key West.
Its also possible to tie in a trip to Florida with other places in the USA. You could stopover in New York en route or add in a few days in Las Vegas. Alternatively head onwards to a Caribbean Island for the ultimate in relaxation following your days in the theme parks.
