Stunning Santorini Holidays
An island of charms, with white washed buildings, blue domed churches, spectacular sunsets and super friendly locals. This Instagrammable island is truly captivating; your first glimpse of the Caldera and the ocean beyond will literally take your breath away.
Santorini is one of the Cyclades Islands, it sits in the middle of the tremendously blue Aegean Sea. The picture postcard beauty seen on many Greek pictures across the world is a result of a massive volcanic eruption dating back to 1450 when the Caldera was formed.
Wander around the narrow cobbled streets of Oia and Fira. Climb the many steps up the cliff wall and enjoy the view. Pop your head in one of the many beautiful churches which are literally awe inspiring.
It is a fairly small island, you can get from one end to the other in around 40 minutes. Its capital Fira sits in the middle of the island, above which is Firofestini and Oia on the northern coast. It is here you will find those extra special views. It is where the sun sets each day and there are some stunning spots from which to enjoy this with an ice cold cocktail or a glass of wine from one of the many vineyards found locally.
It is in these resorts that you will find some very special and unique hotels, many of which are nestled into the cliff side. These 5 star luxury resorts offer their guests a truly memorable experience. Many rooms have open aspect views of the Caldera, and private plunge pools to sit and watch that superb sunset. Head up into the hills to find slightly bigger resorts which can also boast those special views. I spent my 40th birthday in one of these hotels and can honestly say it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life.
South of the island you will find the more budget friendly resorts of Perissa and Kamari. These resorts have stunning black sand beaches, varied watersports, and great restaurants and buzzing nightlife. With great transport connections to other areas of the island it is easy to stay here and experience the rest of the island on days and evenings out. There are accommodation options here to suit all budgets; with some pocket friendly hotels in the hills to the back of the resort and some fabulous beach front boutique hotels.
As you would expect from a Greek island the food here is to die for! From the freshest seafood platter, to the creamiest Tzatsiki, to the tastiest home made moussaka and the best street food on the planet – Gyros. Food spots here range from take aways, to rustic tavernas to high end gourmet affairs with that all important view. We have some amazing restaurant recommendations for visitors to the island including a few rarely found gems off the beaten track.
Given its beauty it is not surprising that Santorini is a favourite spot to be married in. You are guaranteed to get some spectacular photographs. During our visits here we have seen lots of weddings; interestingly we saw lots of Japanese ladies marrying themselves! They want the dress and the pictures but not the husband.. not a bad idea!! If you are thinking of getting married here please get in touch. We would be privileged to help you plan your special day.
Santorini is a great destination for all types of travellers. Couples of all ages including those celebrating special occasions or on honeymoon will enjoy the beauty and romance of the island. Groups of friends who are looking for a fun holiday with a lower level of nightlife will be suited to the south resorts on the island particularly in high season. And like most Greek islands Santorini is very family friendly, with restaurants and hotels offering menus and facilities for children.
