Vibrant Vietnam Holidays
Vietnam is a country of incredible beauty with charms that will simply take your breath away. An exotic destination with its golden temples, picture postcard beaches and brightly coloured architecture. Experience its rich history and culture, and understand the impact of years of war on its people and land. Vietnam is now a nation that is developing very quickly and the numbers of tourists visiting is soaring; not surprising with its diverse offering of adventure, relaxation, cosmopolitan cities and spectacular scenery.
This magnificent country sits in South East Asia and has borders with Cambodia, Laos and China. It is shaped like an elongated letter S and has over 3200km of coastline much of which has the most spectacular beaches. Its cities are big and bustling, modern skyscrapers justle for spots next to ancient buildings, and the roads are hives of activity. Inland you will find verdant and rolling countryside, cascading rice fields and a more peaceful pace of life which is almost mystical.
The Vietnamese people are pretty special too! They are very proud, have huge hearts and wide smiles and welcome visitors to their beautiful country with open arms. Expect outstanding food too; whether its street food, from a rustic restaurant or a spectacular rooftop venue the cuisine here is to be talked about. Its super fresh and full of vibrant flavours. In the cities head to emerging restaurants which are operating as social enterprises getting street children off the street and into training and employment; they deliver exceptional food with added social value.
It is a pretty big country, with places to visit and things to see scattered across it. This makes it a great destination to tour or to have a multi centre holiday in. I have personal experience of travelling in Vietnam using internal flights to visit a number of places of interest across the country which was really easy and enjoyable. The flight programmes are extensive and the airports easy to navigate.

Where to go in Vietnam
North Vietnam
In the North of the country you will find Hanoi, a city that was besieged by the war and is now trying hard to catch up. It is a bustling city of ancient streets with a fascinating old quarter, and some pretty sensational street food. Locals whizz around on scooters carrying everything on board; from their wares to sell, to entire families or even pieces of furniture and people watching is a pass time in itself. Head out of Hanoi to the national park at Cat Ba for some tremendous hiking in the mountainous jungle and be rewarded with some magnificent views. Or enjoy an epic cruise on an old Chinese junk boat through the breathtakingly beautiful Ha Long Bay; the experience of a lifetime.
Central Vietnam
Along the coast in central Vietnam you will find the gems that are Da Nang , Hue, and Hoi An. The airport is located in Da Nang and whilst it is not always seen as a place to stop its worth catching your breath if only to take in the Ba Na Hills. Climb to the summit and be amazed by the vistas that stretch as far as the eye can see, or if your not feeling as athletic you can take the cable car. You will also find the Golden Hands bridge here rising from the mountains. Hue is the old imperial capital and is a great place to get an insight into Vietnam through the years. Hue is split into north and south by the Perfume River along which ancient homes and mausoleums sit. Hoi An is an old trading port, visit the old ruined temples of My Son, enjoy a walking tour or take a cookery class. Its also a great place to get out early in the morning on a cycle trip in the spectacular local countryside. Along this part of the coast you will also find amazing beaches everywhere, great to combine busy days with time out to recharge.
South Vietnam
In the south of the country enjoy cosmopolitan Ho Chi Minh city formerly known as Saigon. A city of contrasts where colonial architecture and street markets meet modern new skyscrapers, luxury hotels and restaurants and designer boutiques. Visit the Chu Chi Tunnels a maze which is more than 120km long used by the Viet Cong soldiers in the war; experience what it was like to use the tunnels first hand. Take a trip on the Mekong Delta, one of the longest rivers in the world surrounded by richly cultivated fields which are known as the rice bowl of Vietnam. We took an amazing cruise at dawn down the river watching the countryside come alive around the river and visited the floating markets at Cai Rang.
South Vietnam Islands
If you are looking for a beach holiday in a luxury resort or perhaps time out after touring the mainland it is worth considering time in the Con Dao islands or perhaps Phu Quoc. These islands are the perfect destination If you are looking for a romantic getaway of honeymoon.
Con Dao is an archipelago of 15 islands off the south coast sitting the South China Sea. The National Park takes up around 80% of the local area here, its home to unspoilt bays and sensational beaches. The perfect spot for swimming and snorkelling, the marine life is tremendous and it’s a turtle nesting ground too.
Phu Quoc is a tropical island sitting in the Gulf of Thailand. Its lined with white sand beaches and swaying palms, with a thriving tourist scene. Head away from the towns and into the lush green jungle; see the Suoi Tranh waterfalls or enjoy a trek through the National Park. Phu Quoc has some fantastic luxury resorts including some which are very family focused.
