Where to go in Indonesia
Bali
Bali is Indonesia’s most popular island for tourists to visit. A beautiful island with breath taking beaches and coastline and a rather special interior that has the serious wow factor. It offers a broad spectrum of experiences and suits all types of travellers. With secluded mountainous romantic retreats perfect for honeymooners, upmarket resorts with trendy bars and cool nightlife and family friendly luxury 5 star resorts.
Gili Islands
This idyllic islands situated a speedboats ride from the coast of either Bali or Lombok are likened the Indonesian version of the Maldives. With no motorised transport anywhere on the islands, they have very special charms and the lifestyle is laid back.
There are 3 islands; Gili Tranwagan, Gili Air and Gili Meno; often referred to as Gili T, Gili A and Gili M. The 3 islands are very different but also very similar! Gili T is the biggest of the 3 and has a lot more going on; with lots of bars, clubs and beach parties it’s a hot spot for divers and attracts lots of visitors. Gili A is slightly smaller than Gili T, and not quite as busy, but it has its own buzz and vibe which is suited to those who want to enjoy the beach by day and take it easy in nice restaurants and cocktail bars by night.
Gili Meno is a much smaller island, you can walk around it in about 90 minutes. I stayed here for 3 nights when I visited Indonesia and it is pure paradise. Its far more rustic than its neighbours, we needed a torch when going out on an evening and the choice of places to eat and drink are fewer but nevertheless amazing. We did find a gem of a restaurant at a beautiful beach club and sat with our feet in the sand as the sun went down having dinner on our final evening. It was perfection and I would highly recommend a visit to the Gili’s.
